# Tokens with tax

Some token contracts deduct an additional fee whenever the token is bought, sold, or transferred. This is commonly called a **token tax**.

The tax is defined and enforced by the token's smart contract. DeDust does not collect it and cannot remove, reduce, or refund it.

As a result, you may receive fewer tokens than the [Swap](https://dedust.io/swap) page initially shows or receive less value when selling the token.

### How DeDust warns you

Trading recognized tokens with tax is disabled by default.

When you select a recognized taxed token, DeDust displays a warning. After you enter an amount, the interface also shows the known **Buy fee** and **Sell fee** charged by the token contract.

> **Important:** DeDust can display this warning and fee information only for taxed-token contracts it recognizes. An unknown [Imported token](/en/trade/tokens.md#verified-and-imported-tokens) may charge a tax without any warning or fee estimate. Always research an Imported token before trading it.

### How to enable trading

To trade a recognized token with tax:

1. Select the token on the **Swap** page.
2. Read the warning and review the displayed Buy fee and Sell fee.
3. Open [**Advanced settings**](/en/trade/settings.md) using the gear icon. You can also open the setting directly from the warning.
4. Turn on **Trade tokens with tax**.
5. Select **Save**.

The Swap action becomes available after the setting is enabled. Select the displayed **Token fee** for a short explanation of taxed tokens.

Enabling the setting means that you understand and accept the additional deductions and the risk of receiving less than expected.

### Min. receive does not include token tax

The **Min. receive** value protects you against unfavorable price movement beyond your selected [slippage tolerance](/en/trade/price_impact.md#slippage-and-slippage-tolerance). It does not include the amount deducted separately by the taxed token's smart contract.

This means that the number of tokens that reaches your wallet can be lower than the **Min. receive** value shown on the Swap page.

Before confirming a swap:

* check the displayed Buy fee and Sell fee;
* account for the tax separately from slippage;
* confirm the token's smart contract address;
* decide whether the expected result is still acceptable after the deduction.

> **Warning:** A token tax is not proof that a token is legitimate or safe. Taxes can create substantial losses, especially when both buying and selling are taxed. Never rely only on the token name, ticker, or DeDust warning when assessing a project.
